Terms of use

Um, some ground rules.

Umbot is test software being built in the open. The short version: it's free to try, it will misbehave, and you use it at your own risk.

This is test software

Umbot is built and operated by Zaks.io, LLC. That’s the “we” in everything that follows.

Umbot is pre-release and experimental. It may miss your filler words, flag words you never said, change behavior overnight, or stop working entirely. Features can appear, mutate, or vanish without notice. That’s not a disclaimer we hope you skim past; it’s an accurate description of the current state.

Use at your own risk

Umbot is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, Umbot.

It’s a practice tool

Umbot is for practicing your speaking. It is not medical advice, speech therapy, or a professional assessment of any kind. If speech is a health concern for you, a speech-language pathologist will do far more than a robot with a chime.

Be sensible with the microphone

You’re responsible for using Umbot where microphone use is appropriate and lawful. It doesn’t record anything, as the privacy page explains, but the other people in the room don’t know that unless you tell them.

Changes and contact

As Umbot grows up, these terms will too. If you keep using it after they change, that counts as accepting the new ones. Questions go to isaac [at] zaks.io.
